UVRF Swim Test - Required
UVRF swim test certification is good for 5 years. Wear rowing clothing (gym or lycra shorts and a t-shirt) and bring a towel and dry clothes to change into after the test. UVRF provides life jackets for the swim tests, which take about 15 minutes. You do not need to make an appointment, just show up during any of the scheduled times.
If you are unsure when you last passed your UVRF Swim test, check the Documents tab of our website under Swim Tests, or click here to check the date.
UVRF normally holds several hour-long sessions at the Dartmouth Pool for swim tests during the months of February through May. No swim tests have yet been scheduled for 2021, due to covid-19. As soon as we know more about when and where swim tests can be held, we will let the membership know by email and there will be an announcement on the website.
The test consists of the following (in this order):
Tread water for 10 minutes
Swim for 50 yards
Put on life jacket that is thrown into the water
Swim to the nearest ladder or edge and climb out of the pool
Please try to attend one of our scheduled swim tests. If you are unable to attend a scheduled swim test you may go to the Dartmouth pool during open rec swim hours, if you chose this option you must pay for a day pass to use the pool and arrange with the UVRF Safety Officer to bring someone with you to supervise the swim test and to borrow a lifevest. The Dartmouth lifeguard is NOT to be asked to supervise the swim test.
If you are taking an individual swim test at another pool, we strongly advise you to contact the pool staff in advance to ensure that they will have staff on hand to administer the test or will allow you to take a friend to administer the swim test. For UVAC, please contact Forrest Pollard. For CCBA, please contact Marie Dumont. For Storrs Pond, please contact email@example.com.
Print out a copy of the UVRF Swim Test Certification form from the Documents tab (here) on our website and bring it with you for the administrator or lifeguard to sign. Wear rowing clothing and bring a life jacket (you will have to put it on while treading water). Send your signed form to UVRF, PO Box 419, Hanover, NH 03755 with "Swim Test" on the lower left of the envelope. Or, even better, email your form to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note: Please be courteous to the lifeguards. You may need to call ahead and explain what the UVRF swim test is! And, you must bring the UVRF checklist and a life jacket.
Please note that UVRF accepts swim tests from Lebanon Crew and HHS Crew.
